Our plans for the day of the late Queen’s funeral

Dear friends

Well, this has been a strange week. A very sad week with the loss of our dear Queen.

As you know, her funeral takes place on Monday and King Charles has designated the day to be a bank holiday.

Now, normally I don’t open on Mondays, but I have been asked if I would consider opening in order that people could get together and reminisce about her life and times.

It was suggested that I open all day and allow people to watch the funeral together, but I’m afraid that won’t be possible.

Like many of you, my staff and I have families and we feel that we’d like to spend the time with them during this special moment. I feel it is very important to us all and so I won’t be opening until after the funeral has finished.

I will, however, be opening The Bell for a short period in the afternoon to allow everyone the opportunity to get together.

Please come down to the Bell to join with your friends between 3pm and 6pm to remember Her Majesty and look forward to the reign of our new King Charles III.

It’s Morris Night – Pick up your clogs

Join us for a great English tradition.

OK, I know Morris Dancing started somewhere in the Middle East, but we’ve claimed it now.
So tonight we have a visit from the Owlswick Morris side who will be performing their dances outside the pub.
Owlswick Morris perform all over Europe including France, Belgium, Austria, The Czech Republic, Ireland, Germany & Hungary.
If you have never seen them, come on down and see the energy and passion that they put into their dance.
If you have seen them, then you know what a great night it will be and I’m sure you will want to join in.
In fact Owlswick Morris are always looking to recruit and this link will give you five good reasons whilst you should want to join.

So, I look forward to seeing you tonight from 8pm, don’t forget your clogs

By the way, don’t forget this weekend is a Bank Holiday Weekend with good weather on the horizon. Why not pop up and grab a glass or two. We are open Sunday hours on the Monday noon – 8:00 pm

Join us to roar on the amazing Lionesses this Sunday

It is often said that the amazing lionesses are by far the stronger and faster of their species. In fact female lions, called lionesses, are actually stronger runners and better hunters than male lions are! Male lions lie around a lot, and get the females to do all the work for them.

So no change there then!

This Sunday at 5pm eleven of the strongest lionesses take to the turf at Wembley. Their job to hunt down the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 Final when they take on Germany.

And we will be showing the game live here at The Bell in Chearsley.

Join us for a fabulous afternoon with pre-match community singing led by Furry and watch as the game unwinds. We will be having complimentary half time nibbles (but not, as some suggested, a community bath!)

So come along and join us girls and let’s show the Lions that we can go one better than they did last year.

Oh and don’t forget to wear your match kit ladies – if you ask your men, they probably have some languishing from last year 😉

Our beautiful new patio area is really upfront

So here at the Bell in Chearsley we are never sitting still and we wanted to install a new patio area outside at the front of the pub to add to our existing one at the back.

So we got the builders in… Again!

Digging out for the new patio
Building work commences

And yes we probably did pick the hottest days of the year to do the work!

New Patio Flagged
Flagged Out

So here we are – almost finished, the sleeper walls are in place and the flags are (almost) laid, Now I need to work out how to use the area.

New Patio Area
Finished

And here it is, a brand new seating area at the front of the pub with lovely views over the village green. Come on down and enjoy it – if you haven’t already.
